Congrats to Zhenkun, Vicky, and Stephanie - their paper describing the cellular function of the NBDY microprotein is online now at Biochemistry. They show that NBDY deletion dysregulates the half-lives of thousands of human mRNAs, some via the direct binding of NBDY to the decapping complex and some as a secondary effect of transcriptional downregulation of alternative RNA decay pathways. Intriguingly, NBDY deletion can either accelerate or decelerate mRNA decapping and decaydepending on the length of the 5’UTR. Great work!
